DCCC Chair Statement On GOP-Caused Expiration of Affordable Care Act Tax Credits

DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene released the following statement after House Republicans allowed ACA tax credits to expire, causing health care costs to skyrocket for millions of Americans:

“As the new year begins, millions of Americans are facing massive sticker shock due to higher health care costs, another jarring and immediate example of how House Republicans have broken their promise to voters — a betrayal that will cost them the majority in the midterms.

“Make no mistake, the blame behind the skyrocketing health care costs millions are facing today is squarely at the feet of House Republicans, and the American people know it. Instead of putting forth a serious proposal to address spiking health care costs, House Republicans chose to focus on delivering massive tax breaks for the wealthiest few — never even allowing a floor vote to save the tax credits before their expiration.

“Voters were promised lower costs on ‘day one’ by Republicans, but they have broken that promise with every action they’ve taken this year, from their Big, Ugly Bill to rubber-stamping Trump’s reckless, price-hiking tariffs. Today’s shameful milestone is merely the latest example.

“The DCCC will hold House Republicans accountable for their failure to lower costs every day between now and the midterms, contrasting Republicans’ price-spiking policies with a Democratic agenda that puts people first and addresses the affordability crisis that is burdening far too many hardworking Americans today.”
