Following the passage of North Carolina’s latest unlawful gerrymandered Congressional map, DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene released the following statement on the DCCC-backed lawsuit challenging the map:
“Republicans in D.C. and in North Carolina are so confident they’re going to lose the midterm elections that they desperately rushed through yet another unlawful congressional map that is a continued assault on the voting rights of Black North Carolinians.
“I made clear that the DCCC would fight against this illegal map in the courts, and that’s exactly what we’re continuing to do today with these new claims filed on behalf of Black voters.
“Make no mistake – rather than work to lower costs or avert a health care crisis of their own making, GOP legislators have targeted and dismantled a historic Black-opportunity district and grossly diluted the voting power of Black voters in the state. Their sham redistricting process allowed for almost no public input, but we know where voters stand. We will continue to use each and every tool to fight alongside Black voters in North Carolina and challenge this unlawful map.”
