DCCC Chair Statement on Texas House Democrats’ Decision to Fight Back Against Corrupt Republican Gerrymander

Following the announcement by Texas House Democrats to deny a quorum as Republicans attempt to shove through a mid-decade gerrymander of the state’s congressional map, DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene released the following statement:

“Today, we’ve seen Texas lawmakers make the difficult but morally just decision to fight against Republicans’ shameful scheme to rig the midterm elections.

“In only a few short weeks, we’ve seen thousands of Texans stand up and speak out to decry this DC Republican-driven power grab.

“The push to gerrymander the Texas map is a desperate ploy to salvage Republicans’ dwindling majority by further suppressing the vote of millions of minority voters.

“House Democrats stand in solidarity with every single lawmaker who has taken the difficult step to deny a quorum to stop the rigged map. Republicans should also know that the fight to preserve our democracy is one that Democrats across the country are ready for. The DCCC will not stand aside while Donald Trump and House Republicans try to steal the 2026 election. With public opinion turning against the Republican record of broken promises, we will fight across the country to take back the majority, restoring the will of the people back to the People’s House.”
