DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene released the following statement recognizing the 53rd Anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision:
“Roe v. Wade was an historic decision for individual liberty in establishing reproductive freedom as a constitutional right. Its overturning four years ago brought our country decidedly backwards, unfortunately.
“Roedeclared that reproductive decisions should be made between a woman and her doctor — not by politicians. In their never-ending efforts to pass a national abortion ban, House Republicans have pushed policy after policy to chip away at a woman’s right to choose. The American people overwhelmingly oppose Republicans’ efforts to tear down abortion rights, and voters will make their voices heard this November.
“Since the overturning of the Roe decision, women have less freedom than they did before Trump and House Republicans took power. House Republicans’ radical anti-abortion agenda inserts government into the health care decisions of women and families, which is why it is so important to recognize today’s anniversary and renew our commitment to enshrining the rights afforded under the Roe decision. It’s an unfortunate reality that today, because of extreme Republicans, my granddaughters will grow up in an America that affords them fewer rights than were guaranteed to me. That is unacceptable, and it’s why House Democrats are fighting to take back the majority and enshrine reproductive freedom into law.”
