DCCC Chair Statement on the Federal Court’s Rejection of Alabama’s Proposed Congressional Map

DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene released the following statement after a federal district court rejected the proposed congressional map and called for a new map to be drawn:

“Today’s decision is an important milestone towards ensuring that Black voters in Alabama have a new district in time for next year’s elections. Voting and fair representation is a civil right for all, and the court’s ruling affirms why the Voting Rights Act remains critically important today.

“Republican officials in Alabama continue to blatantly trample on the rights of voters, admittedly defying court orders, and I applaud the court’s efforts to ensure that Alabama has a map which reflects the diversity of the state, ensuring all voices are represented in Congress.”
