DCCC Chairman Sean Patrick Maloney released the following statement on the retirement of Rep. Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-40):
“Lucille Roybal-Allard is a trailblazer whose contributions to the United States Congress and her home state of California are beyond measure. As the first Mexican-American woman elected to Congress nearly 30 years ago, Lucille has broken barriers throughout her career, including becoming the first Latina to serve on the powerful Appropriations Committee and the first woman to chair the Congressional Hispanic Caucus.
“Perhaps one of the most consequential pieces of Lucille’s legacy is her advocacy on behalf of Dreamers and immigrant families, including co-authoring the original Dream Act. I have no doubt that Lucille will continue fighting for dignity and opportunity for all Americans in her next chapter. I join my colleagues in thanking Lucille for her decades of public service and wish her and her family the best.”
