DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene released the following statement on Nancy Pelosi’s retirement:
“Speaker Emerita Pelosi is a trailblazer and an iconic American leader who’s made history, shattered the marble ceiling, and helped define the Democratic party as the party of the people.
“She came to Congress with a ‘why.’ Everyday since, she fought tirelessly for the children and families of America and her beloved San Francisco.
“The United States House of Representatives is the People’s House – the closest chamber to the people. For nearly two decades, Speaker Emerita Pelosi was at the helm of our party. Through moments of upheaval and change, she was a steady and visionary leader. Her list of accomplishments, legislatively, politically, and as an inspiration to women across the nation, are innumerable.
“And no one is more clear-eyed that in order to govern, you must first win elections. Before she was Speaker, she was a political organizer: first learning at her father’s side when he served as a five-term Mayor of Baltimore, and later as a central figure in San Francisco politics and as California Democratic Party Chair, her steely discipline and boundless energy made her an unmatched strategist. She built the modern DCCC, anchored in her frequent refrain on the “3Ms” needed to win. Her pragmatic approach to all three: “money, message, and mobilization” led Democrats to victory in countless elections.
“Pelosi’s passion to serve also extended to her colleagues.
“I am incredibly fortunate to have served alongside Speaker Emerita Pelosi during my entire time in Congress, and have benefited immensely from her advice, encouragement, and experience over the years. She’s helped countless women members, including myself, navigate the halls of Congress. She was always a voice of reason and reminded us what is most important – to be a voice for our constituents.
“I’m grateful that we’ll be able to serve with Speaker Emerita Pelosi for the remainder of her term. And I know she will be throwing one final punch – for the children – by continuing to be instrumental in ensuring we re-take the House Majority in 2026.
“I know I speak for countless Americans when I say: Thank you, Nancy Pelosi.”
