The DCCC released the following statement from DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene:
“Today, we are reminded of the horrific events that took place on January 6 – an insurrection incited by Republicans seeking to destroy our democracy and undermine the will of voters across the country. While democracy prevailed, the threats remain as far-right extremists and leaders of the Republican Party continue to embrace lies, promote dangerous conspiracy theories, and fail to condemn colleagues who incite violence.
“Today there are members in Congress that perpetuated the ‘Big Lie’ that led to the insurrection and there are members that attended the insurrection themselves – and yet, their party is now tasked with leading a branch of government whose objective is to protect and defend our democratic values.
“I remember those who lost their lives due to the heinous attacks, thank the brave men and women who defended the Capitol on that somber day two years ago, and thank my current and former colleagues that served on the January 6 Select Committee, which diligently investigated what led to the events of that day in order to prevent anything like it from happening again. It is incumbent upon all of us to call out dangerous lies when we see them and stand together as we continue our fight to build a more righteous democracy.”
