DCCC Chair Statement on the Tenth Anniversary of the Obergefell Decision

On the tenth anniversary of the Supreme Court’s historic decision to legalize marriage equality in all 50 states, DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene released the following statement:

“Ten years ago today, marriage equality became the law of the land, an historic milestone in our nation’s neverending quest to fulfill the promise of America: equality for all. Since that day, countless LGBTQI+ couples have exercised their right to love who they want and have families that are legally recognized as equal to any other.

“While we celebrate the progress we’ve made, we must recognize the fight for equality and against LGBTQI+ discrimination is not done. Far-right extremists continually push a hateful agenda that seeks to strip away our basic freedoms and legal protections. House Democrats will always fight for the defense and dignity of the LGBTQI+ community, ensuring that every Americans’ rights and freedoms are protected. We did it when we last had the majority in passing the Respect for Marriage Act, and we will build on that milestone when we re-take the majority in 2026.”
