On the third anniversary of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, eliminating the nearly 50-year constitutional right to an abortion, DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene released the following statement:
“In the three years since Roe v. Wade was overturned, Republicans have done everything they can to restrict reproductive freedoms, endangering the lives of women across the country unable to get the health care they need. Republicans know the public opposes their extreme anti-abortion position, so they have resorted to sneaking anti-abortion provisions into legislation, including their Big, Ugly Bill, which would stop private insurance companies from covering abortion and would cut funding to hospitals and clinics.
“The American people are overwhelmingly supportive of protecting abortion rights and Republican attempts to dismantle this right remain a motivating issue for voters.
“House Democrats will always stand with women and their fundamental right to control their own bodies, which means passing legislation to codify the protections enshrined under Roe when we re-take the majority.”
