Today, State Representative Justin J. Pearson won the Democratic primary in Tennessee’s 9th Congressional District and will advance to the general election as the party’s nominee. DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene released the following statement congratulating him:
“Congratulations to Justin J. Pearson on his hard-fought victory. Justin is a proven fighter for Tennessee families, and he’s running to take on the culture of corruption in Washington that allows big corporations and billionaires to rake in profits while working people are forced to pay more for everything from gas to groceries. His opponent Brent Taylor is too weak to stand up to his special interest donors who are making life harder for Tennessee families. Momentum is fully behind Justin’s campaign to hold Tennessee’s 9th Congressional District come November.”
On Wednesday, the DCCC expanded House Democrats’ Districts in Play for the 2026 election cycle to include Tennessee’s Ninth Congressional District, signaling Democrats’ readiness to reclaim the House majority by widening the battlefield and working to win this open seat. The DCCC’s Districts in Play are competitive districts held by vulnerable Republicans and competitive open seats across the country that will determine the House majority.
TN-09’s addition to the DCCC’s Districts in Play sends the clear message that Democrats know Tennessee voters are souring on D.C. Republicans’ wildly unpopular record of raising costs, attacking affordable health care, and hurting working families.
Democrats’ consistent overperformance in special elections this cycle is further proof that we have a path to victory this year to win TN-09. |
