DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene Statement Celebrating Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month

DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene released the following statement celebrating the beginning of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month:

“During Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we celebrate the enduring legacy of AANHPI communities — which represent more than 50 ethnic groups and over 2,300 languages — in our history, culture, and the lives of all Americans.

“The story of AANHPI immigrants and families is the American story: resilient, courageous, and unwaveringly hopeful. This month, we honor the memory of the 100th and 442nd Regiments in WWII, whose decorated service overseas was contrasted by the internment of their brothers and sisters at home. We recognize the innovators who split the atom and connected oceans across a continent; the nurses, small business owners, and organizers who built the communities we live in. And we celebrate the artists who command the screen and the stage — whose joyous patriotism resonates between movements of Bach, the ukulele, and martial arts.

“Democrats are fighting for a future where more families can capture the American dream at a time when too many families are struggling with rising costs, and we remain committed to combating anti-Asian hate. This month and every month, we find courage in their legacy, and will continue working to honor them — past and present.”
