“Juneteenth marks an incredibly important day of celebration for our country as it is rooted in the very depths of our nation’s ever-growing progress towards justice and freedom for all.
“Today, we commemorate the day that the Emancipation Proclamation reached Galveston Bay, Texas, freeing 250,000 enslaved people and finally bringing an end to slavery in Confederate states.
“As Americans celebrate this historic day and honor the generations of Black Americans who have forged our nation, let us take this time to reflect on our nation’s history as some attempt to erase it. And let us recommit ourselves to creating a better future for all Americans.”
