DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene released the following statement celebrating the Juneteenth holiday:
“On Juneteenth, we commemorate the anniversary of the day news of the Emancipation Proclamation reached Galveston Bay, Texas, freeing 250,000 people from slavery, more than two years after President Lincoln made the decree.
“This day is also an opportunity for us to collectively recommit to the work that remains undone. While the opposition may be fierce and daunting, we know that by working together towards justice and equality we can and will prevail. We will never allow those in the current administration to erase and ban Black history and Black stories from our nation’s conscience.
“House Democrats remain committed to uplifting and supporting Black Americans across the country, to protecting and expanding affordable health care access, pushing for policies to create good-paying jobs, and to unrigging a system that favors the powerful and wealthy at the expense of working families. When we reclaim the House majority next year, we will pass legislation that gets us closer to delivering the promise of America for all Americans.”
