This evening, DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene released the following statement applauding Democrats’ tireless efforts to prevent a catastrophic Republican-manufactured default:
“Thanks to the work of House Democrats and President Biden, a GOP-manufactured default can now be avoided.
“From the beginning, MAGA Republicans — and those vulnerable GOP members who were too weak to stand up to the extremes of their party — have been scheming to slash veterans’ benefits, increase unemployment, and trigger a job-killing recession. But thanks to the leadership of Hakeem Jeffries and the Democratic Caucus, the American people have been spared the devastating impacts that the extreme Republican ‘Default on America Act’ would have made a reality.
“We know Republicans won’t stop in their efforts to prioritize their wealthy and well-connected friends at the expense of everyday American families — just look no further than their plan to make permanent the GOP Tax Scam that bailed out big corporations and the wealthiest few. The DCCC will continue to hold these Republicans accountable for holding our economy hostage and for pushing an extreme, out-of-touch agenda that hurts hardworking American families.”
