DCCC Chairman Steve Israel released the following statement commemorating the passage of the 19th Amendment:
“Today on Women’s Equality Day we commemorate the landmark passage of the 19th Amendment, a monumental step in our nation’s ongoing march toward full equality for women in America. Ensuring women the most basic of political rights, the right to vote, was a vital, but far from sufficient, step toward ensuring full equality.
“While we renew our commitment to fighting for equality at the ballot box and in the workplace, House Republicans continue to live in an alternate universe when it comes to women’s rights, denying the discrimination that still exists and blocking Democratic attempts to fight it. This fall American women will exercise their right guaranteed by the 19th Amendment and elect Democrats who believe that when women succeed, America succeeds.”
