DCCC Chairman Luján Statement Ahead of SOTU

DCCC Chairman Ben Ray Luján released the following statement ahead of President Obama’s final State of the Union speech:

“To the working families interested in keeping their affordable healthcare, the seniors counting on a timely and secure retirement, the small business owners wanting to create more jobs on Main Street and young people eager to hold onto the American Dream, tune into tonight’s State of the Union speech.

“Democrats know that hardworking people have real fears and goals, real difficulties and aspirations that both keep them awake and keep them hopeful. The question is, will those be realized and solved with the Republicans’ hateful rhetoric and bluster, or with substantive solutions from Democrats?

“Unlike Republicans, President Obama will make clear that Democrats have real solutions to address the security of our economy, our nation and our future.

“Democrats have plans to provide pay equity and paid family leave when your child is home sick. Democrats want to ensure that college education is affordable and accessible to everyone.  Democrats want to keep guns out of the hands of suspected terrorists. And Democrats want to invest in the creation of more STEM jobs, more medical research into cancer and Alzheimer’s treatments, and more worker training so that we are competitive in a global economy.

“Ahead of tonight’s speech, and the inevitable response from Republicans, I ask American voters again: do you want Democratic solutions or Republican bluster?”
