House Democrats successfully moved this week to restrict the display of the Confederate flag on federal lands. As House Republicans move to undo that effort and protect the Confederate battle flag, DCCC Chairman Ben Ray Luján released the following statement:
“It is despicable that the day after the South Carolina legislature voted to bring the Confederate battle flag down, House Republicans are trying to resurrect it. Businesses from Walmart to Sears to Amazon have pulled the flag off their shelves, yet Republicans want to make sure this symbol of one of the darkest chapters in our nation’s history can still be sold on federal property. It is long past time to turn the page, but House Republicans are clearly stuck in the past.”
