DCCC Chairman Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney Statement in Honor of Anniversary of George Floyd’s Death

DCCC Chairman Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney released the following statement in recognition of the anniversary of George Floyd’s murder:

One year ago today, George Floyd’s life was brutally taken by former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin. Over the past year, his murder has prompted millions of Americans to demand meaningful reforms that will prevent police from unjustly killing Black Americans.

Not far from where George Floyd’s life was taken, Daunte Wright was recently killed by police. Preventing these injustices requires systemic changes. That’s why Congress must pass the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act, which will meaningfully change police use of force standards while increasing public safety.

As the Floyd family holds vigil in Minnesota, this day should serve as an urgent reminder that we all must continue working as hard as we can to pass the reforms that will prevent more tragic deaths.
