DCCC Chairman Rep. Maloney released the following statement in celebration of Saturday’s Juneteenth holiday
“More than just a day of celebration, Juneteenth has served as a living memorial for more than 150 years to commemorate the true history of the end of slavery in the United States. This day serves as a critical reminder of the progress we’ve made, and the work left ahead to root out systemic racism and make real change to create a better, more just future.
“For too long our nation has failed to treat this holiday with the reverence it deserves. I’m glad President Biden signed our legislation officially designating Juneteenth as a federal holiday, marking an important step forward in our journey to reckon with the dark history of slavery.
“I encourage all Americans, as they celebrate, to take this time to learn, reflect, and recommit to our demands for justice.”
