DCCC Chairman Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney released the following statement following the guilty verdict in the trial of Kim Potter:
“Daunte Wright should be alive today. While this verdict ensured a measure of accountability in finding Kim Potter guilty of her crime, no single sentencing decision will make up for the grief of Daunte Wright’s loved ones, or the disturbing pattern of police violence that ended Daunte Wright’s life just miles away from where another police officer killed George Floyd.
“Our nation must take crucial steps to truly affirm that Black lives matter, including passing the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act in the Senate. Though no jury’s decision or bill will ever return Daunte Wright to his family, this work remains critical in helping rid our nation of the scourge of police brutality that continues to threaten the American people.”
