DCCC Chairman Sean Patrick Maloney On Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson’s Retirement

DCCC Chairman Sean Patrick Maloney released the following statement after Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson announced she will not seek re-election:

“Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson is a history-maker and a trailblazer. She was the first African American woman elected to public office from Dallas, the first registered nurse to serve in Congress, and the first African American and woman chair of the Science, Space, and Technology Committee. She’s dedicated decades of her talent and wit to serving the people of Texas and fighting for equity in the administration of healthcare and housing for all Americans. During her 15 terms in Congress, including serving as Chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus, she has amassed a tremendous record of service to Texans, the American people, and our House Democratic Caucus. I know I speak for all of our colleagues in wishing her a meaningful and happy retirement.”
