DCCC Chairman Sean Patrick Maloney released the following statement after Congressman Peter DeFazio announced he will not seek re-election:
“Chairman Peter DeFazio always has been, and always will be, a fighter on behalf of the American people. Over the past 34 years, he has built an incredible record of service to the people of Oregon and our entire country — helping to deliver some of the most transformative pieces of legislation in recent history. “As Chairman of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, Mr. Defazio led the historic passage of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal, a once-in-a-generation investment in our nation’s crumbling infrastructure. He held the airline industry accountable for wrongdoings and fought to improve safety measures, while also delivering transformative clean energy initiatives to combat the climate crisis and create jobs here at home. “On a personal note, it has been an honor to serve under Chairman DeFazio on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. His passion, courage, and no-nonsense attitude have made him not only an effective lawmaker, but a dear colleague to all who have served with him in the House Democratic Caucus. I know I speak for all of us in wishing Chairman DeFazio a happy and meaningful retirement.”
