DCCC Chairman Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney released the following statement on the passing of Rep. Don Young, Congressman for all Alaska:
“I know I should not have loved Don Young, but I did. Meeting him was like walking through a door to a place where American men were once again rough and crude, even inappropriate, but also big-hearted, decent and, ultimately, irresistible. We spent one unforgettable evening together at the 75th anniversary of D-Day in Normandy drinking bourbon and telling stories. Mine were true. His were funnier.
Yes, there were many things wrong with Don, but you just couldn’t help but like him anyway. He loved this country, his family and his beloved Alaska, and served them all his entire life. He also loved the House of Representatives, and he showed a respect for it that some, with better manners and educations, have not. Others will criticize him for one thing or another, and they’ll all be right. But I loved the guy. And we’re a poorer country without him. Godspeed Don Young.”
