DCCC Chairman Steve Israel released the following statement commemorating the 51st Anniversary of the March on Washington:
“Fifty one years have passed since the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. stood facing our nation’s Capital and challenged America to free itself from the ills of hate and discrimination – to extend justice and equality to everyone, regardless of their skin color.
“The historic March on Washington now faces a new wave of assaults on civil and voting rights by House Republicans and their allies across America. These assaults include House Republicans stalling access to a quality education, affordable healthcare, economic opportunity, a higher minimum wage and immigration reform by blocking legislation that would uplift millions of Americans. Today, I urge us all to come together to honor the vision and purpose of the March on Washington by continuing to march forward until no one in this country is left behind.”
