Representatives Ted Lieu, Jimmy Panetta and Mark Takano will work to engage the veterans’ community and recruit more veterans to run for Congress
Today, Chairwoman Cheri Bustos announced the DCCC’s new Veteran & Service Council Co-Chairs – Congressmen Ted Lieu, Jimmy Panetta, and Mark Takano. In this new role, they will be responsible for overseeing the DCCC’s engagement with the veterans’ community as well as recruiting veterans to run for Congress. This role is an important part of maintaining the diversity of our Members by making sure that our Majority reflects the people. These experienced Democratic Members of Congress are helping our party grow, so that the Democratic Majority can become stronger.
“Our veterans embody the very best of what it means to be an American and they are a critically important part of our Democratic Party. Advocating for their needs, recognizing their service to America and working to elect the next generation of veterans to join our Democratic Caucus is essential to our success,” said DCCC Chairwoman Cheri Bustos. “I want to thank Congressmen Lieu, Panetta and Takano for stepping up to help lead this important effort at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.”
”Our veterans are essential to the foundation of our nation, and their needs deserve to be heard and met,” said Co-Chair Ted Lieu. “I am honored to work with my colleagues to build new connections with Democratic veterans across America.”
“Veterans understand what it means and what it takes to not only serve our country, but to also serve our fellow countrymen and women,” said Co-Chair Jimmy Panetta. “Their passion and patriotism provides for a proven foundation upon which veterans can serve and fulfill their sense of duty to our nation. By encouraging and assisting more veterans to run for Congress and get in office, we are not only helping the Democratic Party, we will help our democracy.”
“Standing with our veterans is a core principle of the Democratic Party which is why I’m honored to help lead the DCCC outreach to the veteran community,” said Co-Chair Mark Takano. “I am eager to carry our values into our Veteran and Service Council so we can ensure that the voices of our returning heroes always have a seat at our table.”
