Collins Resigns Ahead of Guilty Plea in Insider Trading Case
DCCC Chairwoman Cheri Bustos issued this statement following news reports that Chris Collins would resign from Congress, effective immediately:
“Congressman Chris Collins is resigning one year after he was indicted and arrested on insider trading charges. Tomorrow, he is expected to plead guilty to conspiracy, wire fraud and false statements, ending a year-long court battle in the case that also involves his family and top donors. The fact that Congressman Collins is resigning just hours before publicly admitting that he violated federal law and lied to his constituency about it, is yet another sad chapter for the Republican Caucus.”
