Spano’s spin is so bad that we had to try our hand at fixing it
From DCCC spokesman Avery Jaffe: “Facing continued questions about his illegal fundraising scheme and a new bipartisan investigation into his shady finances, Congressman Spano fired his longtime political consultant and once again raised less money this quarter than the quarter before.”
FACING HOUSE ETHICS INVESTIGATION, SPANO ANNOUNCES STRONG FUNDRAISING CYCLE WORST QUARTER OF 2019 AND SHAKES UP 2020 CAMPAIGN TEAM
RIVERVIEW, Fla. – Congressman Spano’s campaign continues to position itself for a strong historically weak 2020 election cycle by first paying down the funds Spano illegally loaned his campaign in 2018, reporting his worst fundraising quarter of 2019 and firing his longtime consultant as he faces a House Ethics probe into his shady finances.
Despite no evidence to verify it, Spano’s campaign claims “The pay down comes at the recommendation of staff from the Federal Election Commission in response to Spano’s self-reporting of the personal loans made to his campaign in 2018.”
Although the pay down will leave the campaign with a one of the lowest account balances of any Member of Congress, the so-called “strength” of the Congressman’s abysmal fundraising, with nearly $500,000 just $388,293.42 in contributions, year-to-date demonstrates the formidable resources that will have to be deployed by the Washington special interests to ensure his re-election in 2020.
Congressman Ross Spano’s re-election campaign also announced a major shake-up of its leadership team, affirming the Congressman’s commitment to continue serving himself and his wealthy friends, rather than the constituents in Florida’s 15th District. Veteran politico Mac Stevenson of Political Insights will serve as the campaign’s general consultant, joined by fundraiser Kevin Hoffman and Public Opinion Strategies partner Gene Ulm, laying off Spano’s longtime political adviser Brock Mikosky.
“I am excited about having such a dynamic and well-respected team in place to ensure our District continues to have strong Conservative representation in Washington Facing a bipartisan House Ethics probe into my shady finances, I just fired my longtime political consultant and reported my worst-ever fundraising quarter as a Member of Congress,” said Congressman Spano. “Make no mistake about it – Conservatives values are my lavish lifestyle as a jet-setting politician is under attack, and if we don’t fight hard to preserve them it, we run the risk of being overrun by the liberal Democrat agenda someone who will actually follow the law, do their job and not embarrass their constituents.”
Stevenson, Hoffman and Ulm all have extensive experience with high-level Conservative campaigns are taking on an enormous liability as Spano’s campaign is now only worth $4,162.23 after a jaw-dropping Q3 burn rate of 170.9 percent. Stevenson’s resume includes work for former Florida Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam and Florida Congressman Greg Steube; Hoffman has worked for Senator Marco Rubio and Ulm is one of the Republican Party’s leading political strategists and pollsters.
