Third Quarter: Despite being in the minority, the DCCC brought in nearly $15.2 million in the third quarter, while the NRCC raised only $9.9 million in the same amount of time. This is a difference of over $5.2 million.
September: The DCCC raised over $6.6 million in September alone, compared to NRCC’s $3.3 million.
Cash on Hand: The DCCC now has nearly $21.8 million Cash on Hand, which greatly surpasses the NRCC’s $19.8 million in the bank. The DCCC is in a very strong financial position, with more than double the $9.46 million that the Committee had at this point in 2011, the last presidential cycle.
For the sixth month in a row, the DCCC carries no debt.
The NRCC’s weak fundraising numbers add insult to injury for what is already a very bad week for House Republicans:
- House Republicans are at a standstill as they await Paul Ryan’s final Speaker decision, creating a complete leadership vacuum.
- To boot, Paul Ryan noted last night that if he does becomes Speaker, he does not plan to fundraise as much as previous Speakers have – a bad sign for NRCC fundraising moving forward.
- Meanwhile, there’s no sign of House Republicans governing responsibly any time soon. Instead of addressing the upcoming legislative deadlines the country faces –the short-term highway funding bill that expires next week, for example – House Republicans are going through with an embarrassing Benghazi Committee hearing, which is now a proven sham, focused on partisan gain and taking down Hillary Clinton in 2016.
Why the DCCC success?
- Unlike House Republicans who are fractured and in total disarray, Democrats are united and rallying together in huge numbers: as of September, 148 members– 77% of the Democratic Caucus – had paid dues.
- Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi is a fundraising force, both among grassroots and major donors. Along with Leader Pelosi, DCCC Chairman Ben Ray Lujan is sustaining a blistering pace of fundraising around the country and urging his colleagues to demonstrate that Democrats are a strong united force through dues paying.
- Grassroots supporters have also dug deep to elect House Democrats. The DCCC has already raised over 1 million grassroots donations this year
