The DCCC is continuing to hold House Republicans accountable for enabling alleged sexual predator Donald Trump’s presidential campaign by refusing to denounce him until after the release of the Access Hollywood video. In one of three new television ads, the DCCC is reminding voters that Congressman Erik Paulsen was silent for far too long about Donald Trump, and only disavowed him when he saw his political career was in jeopardy.

Rep. Erik Paulsen told Minnesotans he “[planned] on voting for the nominee,” in late May, well after Trump had all but clinched the nomination.

There’s no denying he knew what he was agreeing to, even though Trump made insulting comments about women and said that women should be punished for having abortions.

Paulsen went a step further, saying, again on camera, that “it shouldn’t be up to any of us to denounce presidential candidates” as recently as August.

Recently released DCCC research shows that that voters view House Republicans’ last-minute withdrawal of support for Trump for what it is: a craven political act of self-preservation that comes far too late.

“If Congressman Erik Paulsen thought he could stay silent for months and then attempt to separate from Donald Trump only when his reelection chances were on the line, he’s got another think coming,” said DCCC Spokeswoman Sacha Haworth. “Minnesotans will hold Erik Paulsen accountable for refusing to stand up to Trump until it was too late. His lame attempts to distance himself now are nothing more than craven political maneuvering, and we’re going to keep reminding voters of that until Election Day.”
