DCCC To Launch Seven-Figure National Ad-Buy Hitting Mitch McConnell And House Republicans For Blocking Bipartisan Prescription Drug Legislation

House Dems 2020 ‘Opening Salvo’ Will Focus On Number One Issue For Voters – Health Care

Ads will run in English and Spanish on national cable, local cable, and across digital platforms

Today, DCCC Chairwoman Cheri Bustos announced a seven-figure ad buy on national cable, local cable, and across digital platforms. The bilingual ad campaign holds Washington Republicans accountable for siding with Mitch McConnell and their special interest backers to block bipartisan legislation that would lower drug costs and save a family of four approximately $1,920 per year.

The 30-second ad titled ‘Price Tag’ will air in English on national cable channels, MSNBC and CNN across the country. Additionally, ‘Price Tag’ will play in key local cable markets, noted below. A companion Spanish language ad titled ‘Precio’ will air on Univision. Both ads will be complimented by 15-second digital versions playing across multiple platforms.

The ads highlight Washington Republicans siding with Mitch McConnell and special interests to block legislation that would lower health care costs – the number one issue for more than half of voters. Voters trust Democrats by a 16-point margin to lower drug prices, and by a 21-point margin on health care generally.

“The American people are sick and tired of Washington Republicans and Mitch McConnell making their lives more expensive by blocking commonsense legislation that would bring down the cost of their prescriptions,” DCCC Chair Cheri Bustos said. “House Democrats are putting the priorities of the American people first and we’re not going to let Washington Republicans get away with padding the pockets of drug manufacturers and special interests that financed their campaigns while everyday Americans’ prescription drug costs skyrocket.”

Earlier this month, the DCCC released new national polling showing McConnell maintains a 24% favorable, 56% unfavorable rating (-33 net approval rating). The DCCC also released a strategy memo detailing how Democrats will force vulnerable Washington Republicans to answer for McConnell’s deeply unpopular brand as we continue to push further into Republican-held territory.

:30 Price Tag Script:

Life-saving medicines: because there’s nothing more important than your health.

But Mitch McConnell and the Republicans in Congress have taken millions from drug companies.

Blocking bills that would lower drug costs and insurance premiums. That means you pay more.

Democrats in Congress passed a bill to lower drug costs and make health care more affordable.

It’s time for Mitch McConnell and the Republicans to start working for us. Not the special interests.

:30 Precio Script:

In December, the DCCC placed digital ads across the House battlefield highlighting House passage of bipartisan legislation to lower drug costs.
