With Supreme Court expected to overturn Roe any day now, the DCCC launched a week-long billboard campaign to let swing district voters know that abortion rights are at stake this election.
Despite overwhelming public support for safe, legal abortion, GOP nominees have doubled-down on their plans to roll back women’s reproductive freedoms. The billboard campaign targets:
-
GOP Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, whose caucus signed an amicus brief asking the Supreme Court to overturn Roe and Casey, voted against codifying Roe, and co-sponsored the Life at Conception Act, the federal personhood bill that would ban all abortions and certain types of birth control such as IUDs;
-
CA-27 Rep. Mike Garcia, who signed an amicus brief asking the Supreme Court to overturn Roe and Casey, voted against the Women’s Health Protection Act, and co-sponsored the Life at Conception Act, the federal personhood bill that would ban all abortions and certain types of birth control such as IUDs;
-
NC-13 GOP nominee Bo Hines, who claimed, “abortion should be made illegal throughout the United States. No exceptions.”;
-
NV-01 GOP nominee Mark Robertson, who praised Texas’ six-week abortion ban that put a bounty on anyone who helps a woman get an abortion;
-
NV-03 GOP nominee April Becker, who is backed by the extremist anti-abortion group Nevada Right to Life, which wants to ban abortion without exceptions;
-
NV-04 GOP nominee Sam Peters, who has pledged that if he gets to Congress, he will introduce legislation to make it harder for women to access safe, legal abortions;
-
OH-01 Rep. Steve Chabot, who signed an amicus brief asking the Supreme Court to overturn Roe and Casey, voted against the Women’s Health Protection Act, co-sponsored the Life at Conception Act, the federal personhood bill that would ban all abortions and certain types of birth control such as IUDs, and co-sponsored the Heartbeat Protection Act, which could throw doctors who perform abortions in jail;
-
OH-13 GOP nominee Madison Gesiotto Gilbert, who supports Ohio’s Heartbeat Law that would ban abortions in that state without exceptions for rape or incest from the moment the heartbeat of a fetus can be detected – which usually occurs about six weeks into a pregnancy;
-
OR-04 GOP nominee Alek Skarlatos, who said “go for it” on overturning Roe v. Wade and proudly accepted the endorsement of the extremist group Oregon Right to Life, which wants to ban abortion even in cases of rape or incest;
-
OR-05 GOP nominee Lori Chavez-Deremer, who backs an extreme, near-total ban on abortion;
-
OR-06 GOP nominee Mike Erickson, who has campaigned on a “strict anti-abortion platform” and wants to ban abortion;
-
PA-07 GOP nominee Lisa Scheller, who supports a bill to criminalize abortion when there is a detectable fetal heartbeat, even in cases of rape and incest;
-
PA-17 GOP nominee Jeremy Shaffer, who supports banning abortion without exceptions for cases of rape or incest.
“Republicans have made their extremist crusade against abortion crystal clear and, to their own dismay, an overwhelming majority of Americans strongly disagree with them,” said DCCC spokesperson Helen Kalla. “Unfortunately for these swing district GOP candidates, we will be relentlessly reminding voters of Republicans’ out-of-touch views until November.”
