On Monday, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee launched www.extremeGOP.com, a new microsite highlighting House Republicans’ abysmal record attacking women’s right to access reproductive health care. The new microsite follows the Supreme Court’s decision Friday to overturn Roe v. Wade and take away rights that women have relied on for 50 years to make decisions about their own bodies.
As Republicans threaten to move forward with a nationwide abortion ban, House Democrats are making the stakes of this election crystal clear across the House battlefield. The site highlights the 210 House Republicans who voted against codifying Roe v. Wade, 184 House Republicans who asked the Court to roll back rights, and the extreme anti-abortion positions of 28 House Republican incumbents and candidates the NRCC is backing in competitive seats across the country.
And Democrats warn Republicans won’t stop at threatening access to abortion care. Several House Republicans have supported jailing doctors who help women access reproductive care, jailing women seeking health care, and Republican Tim Reichert has even suggested banning access to birth control outright.
DCCC spokesperson Helen Kalla:
“We’re going to make the stakes of this election clear in every House race in the country: If Republicans gain control of Congress, they will pass a nationwide abortion ban, criminalize abortion, and go even further to end women’s right to reproductive health care. Democrats will defend a woman’s right to make decisions about her own body – and force every Republican who opposes that right to answer for it.”
