Four new TV and radio ads will reach TX-22 voters on English and Spanish broadcast, Spanish radio, and cable serving Black voters
Today, the DCCC released its first television and radio ads in Texas’ 22nd Congressional District, highlighting the many reasons why Texans can’t trust twice-fired cop Troy Nehls to keep them safe. The ads are airing beginning today.
“Rampant” exposes Troy Nehls’ repeated firings from Texas police departments and highlights how Nehls lied about his criminal record, destroyed evidence, disobeyed orders and was suspended for an improper arrest. The ad also spotlights Nehls’ disastrous record as Fort Bend County Sheriff: targeting Latinos, a department rampant with abuse and neglect, and costing taxpayers thousands in expensive lawsuits. The ad will reach TX-22 voters on Houston broadcast and cable.
“Suspended” exposes Troy Nehls’ disastrous record and highlights a KTRK-Ch. 13 Houston investigation from June 2020 revealing a racial disparity in arrests of Black residents in Fort Bend County along with a Houston Chronicle report on Nehls’ department conducting a traffic stop on an NFL player in his own driveway. The ad will reach voters in the Houston media market as part of a Black-focused cable buy.
“Descontrolado” exposes Nehls’ firings, his record of lying about his criminal record, destroying evidence, disobeying orders and suspension. The ad also highlights a recent Houston Chronicle editorial calling out Nehls’ department for racially profiling of Latinos. The ad will reach TX-22 voters on Houston Spanish language broadcast.
“Unhealthy” is the DCCC’s first radio ad in TX-22. The 60 second Spanish language ad lays out the record of abuse, negligence and discrimination on Troy Nehls’ watch, particularly as it affects Latinos in the 22nd District. Additionally, Nehls’ failures on COVID-19 are placed front and center, as the ad reminds listeners of Nehls’ premature victory lap on coronavirus along with his reckless and hostile opposition to a commonsense public health guidance to wear masks and socially distance.
“Texans can’t trust twice-fired cop Troy Nehls to keep them safe because he’s repeatedly failed the people he’s sworn to protect,” DCCC Spokesman Avery Jaffe said. “In one of the most diverse districts in the country, Troy Nehls’ shameful record speaks for itself and these new ads will help Texans understand the clear difference in this election.”
