First NY-21 robocall of cycle reminds voters that Stefanik voted with House Republicans to defund Planned Parenthood five times, voted for House Republican budget that would freeze Pell Grants
Today, the DCCC is launching its first robocalls to NY-21 voters this cycle by calling attention to a recent Glens Falls Post-Star editorial that voiced “concerns about who Elise Stefanik is and what she actually stands for.”
While the editorial highlights several examples of Stefanik taking seemingly confusing and contradictory positions on a range of issues, the robocall reminds voters that Stefanik has also sided with House Republicans on critical votes during her first year in office.
Since entering office, Stefanik has voted five times with House Republicans to defund Planned Parenthood, a crucial health service that accepted over 11,000 patients and conducted over 6,000 breast exams in the North Country, according to a 2013 annual report.
Stefanik also voted for the House Republican budget that would freeze Pell Grants, which provided more than more than $55 million in assistance to help Upstate families and students pay for college in FY2015.
“While Congresswoman Stefanik doesn’t want voters to know her real motivations, she can’t run away from her record of joining House Republicans to defund Planned Parenthood five times and voting for the House Republican budget to freeze Pell Grants,” said Bryan Lesswing at the DCCC. “At the end of the day, Stefanik is cut from the same cloth as the rest of the House Republicans in Washington.”
The following is the script for the robocall that will reach voters throughout New York’s 21st congressional district:
Hi, this is Camille calling on behalf of the DCCC.
Did you see the Glens Falls Post-Star recently question “who [Congresswoman] Elise Stefanik is and what she actually stands for?”
While Elise Stefanik can’t be bothered to take a stand on the issues – here is what we do know.
Congresswoman Stefanik voted with House Republicans – not once, but five times – to defund Planned Parenthood.
Stefanik even voted for the House Republican budget to freeze Pell Grants, making it harder for Upstate students and families to pay for college.
Elise Stefanik might say one thing in Upstate New York, but she is cut from the same cloth as the rest of the House Republicans in Washington.
Call Congresswoman Elise Stefanik at (202) 225-4611 and tell her to stop doing the bidding of House Republicans.
