DCCC Launching Recess Radio Campaign Targeting Vulnerable Republicans

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee today is launching a radio campaign hitting four vulnerable House Republicans in their districts while they are home for the second week of the Congressional recess. 30-second radio ads will air throughout the week encouraging voters to hold One Term Wonders Reps. Bob Dold of Illinois and Will Hurd of Texas, as well as entrenched incumbent Reps. John Kline of Minnesota and Dan Benishek of Michigan, accountable for not representing their constituents’ best interests in Congress.

All four members voted for the disastrous Republican budget proposal, which would make it harder for hardworking families to buy a home, pay for college and save for retirement. The ad attacking Congressman Dold hits him specifically for this vote.

Congressman Kline went a step further and voted “yes” on the extreme Republican Study Committee budget proposal, which would make even more draconian spending cuts affecting seniors, hardworking middle class families, and students.

Meanwhile, Rep. Hurd abruptly resigned his post on the House Small Business Committee.

Ads will remind Michigan voters of Rep. Dan Benishek’s recent announcement that he intends to violate his own promise to serve only three terms in Congress will also run this week.

“There is no shortage of recent examples of Republicans prioritizing political games over their constituents — from Will Hurd abruptly quitting the Small Business Committee and Dan Benishek breaking his three-term limit pledge, to scores of Republicans voting for a budget that would make life harder for hardworking families,” said Matt Thornton of the DCCC. “This week, we’re encouraging voters to use recess as an opportunity to hold these Congressmen accountable.”

Following are scripts for the ads which will run on top news stations, minority-owned stations, and Pandora in major media markets in these four Congressional districts:

  • MI-01, Congressman Dan Benishek: When we elected Congressman Dan Benishek, he promised to only serve three terms in Congress. Guess what? He listened to D.C. insiders and wants to stay in Washington for a fourth term. Call Congressman Benishek at (231) 421-5599 and ask him why he broke his word.
  • IL-10, Congressman Bob Dold: The Republican-controlled Congress is on a two week recess vacation, but before leaving D.C., Congressman Bob Dold voted for a Republican budget proposal that would make it harder for you to buy a home or attend college. Call Congressman Dold at (847) 793-8400 and ask him why he voted to make life harder for Illinois families.
  • TX-23, Congressman Will Hurd: When Congressman Will Hurd went to Congress in January, his appointment to the Small Business Committee gave him a chance to help small businesses in South Texas. But not even three months into his first term, Congressman Will Hurd abruptly quit the Small Business Committee. Call him at (210) 921-3130 and ask him why he gave up on helping our small businesses.
  • MN-02, Congressman John Kline: Congressman John Kline recently voted for extreme Republican budget proposals that would raise the Social Security retirement age, cut off funding to critical highway reconstruction projects and increase taxes on hard-working middle class families. Call Congressman Kline at (952) 808-1213 and tell him that if he’s not going to protect Minnesota’s hardworking families, it’s time to retire from Congress.
