Subject: DCCC Polling Memo: WI-01 is a Tied Race
An internal DCCC poll conducted September 21-23 among 495 likely general election voters shows the race for WI-01 is in a dead heat: Democratic challenger Mitchell Berman is tied with Republican incumbent Bryan Steil (48% Berman / 48% Steil / 5% undecided).
In a warning sign for Steil, President Trump’s job performance is deeply underwater in the district, despite voting for him by 4.5 points in 2024. Just 39% approve of the job Trump is doing, compared to 55% who disapprove.
These poll results show that Bryan Steil can’t buy his way out of a political environment where voters are fed up with the Republican agenda of chaos, corruption and higher costs. Even after significant Republican money – over $4.2 million – attempting to promote Steil and attack Berman, the race is a toss up.
The Bottom Line: Once more, polling confirms that WI-01 is a highly competitive race and voters are ready for change. As voters get to know Mitchell Berman and learn more about Bryan Steil’s record of selling them out to billionaires and special interests, WI-01 is primed to flip to Democrats in November.
Methodology: These results are based on a survey of 495 likely general election voters in WI-01 conducted from September 21-23, 2026, via phone and text-to-web interviews. The margin of error is +/- 4.4% at a 95% confidence interval. Respondents in the sample voted for Trump by a 1-point margin and a plurality identify as Republicans (29% Democrat / 37% Republican / 34% Independent).
