DCCC Re-Launches ‘Democracy Summer’ Organizing Program To Empower Next Generation of Democratic Organizers

One of a kind program teaches students state-of-the-art tactics to win elections at every level

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee announced today that it will be relaunching its Democracy Summer project, a one of a kind organizing program led by DCCC Vice Chair for Organizing Rep. Jamie Raskin.

As the 2022 midterm elections approach, the DCCC is partnering with Rep. Raskin’s successful organizing initiative for the second year in a row, teaching students the history of the democratic struggle for the right to vote and how to organize today, building a talented workforce that will power Democratic campaigns for years to come.

“Democrats understand that strong grassroots organizing is vital to winning elections,” said DCCC Vice Chair Jamie Raskin. “I’m excited to partner Democracy Summer with the DCCC once again so House Democrats can build a robust team of well-trained and talented organizers who will help power us to victory this November.”

Democracy Summer gives high school and college-aged students exciting opportunities to learn community and political organizing skills grounded in both historical and social contexts. The DCCC’s program will integrate both traditional in-person organizing with digital organizing to reach even more voters this midterm election.

Already, the campaigns of more than 55 Democrats in Congress, including several DCCC Frontliners, have signed up to participate in the program, eager to welcome young operatives on the ground early in the cycle to help Democrats protect their House majority.

Democracy Summer expanded nationally for the first time in 2021 in an historic partnership with the DCCC and campaigns of Congressional Democrats. Over 350 college and high school-aged students from 27 states participated in the first nationwide virtual summer learning program and were trained simultaneously as organizers and volunteer activists in Democratic campaigns across the nation.

Applications are now open and will be accepted through March 15, 2022. More information can be found at DCCC.org/democracysummer.
