The DCCC released its first TV ad in the race for MI-04, “Change the Rules,” spotlighting Bill Huizenga’s record giving himself a $50,000 tax break, cashing checks from data center developers, utilities, and Big Oil, all while Michigan families foot the bill for higher prices.
“Change the Rules” argues that Huizenga’s corruption has a price tag. It contrasts Huizenga’s self-serving record with Sean McCann’s plan to put a stop to the corruption: banning congressional stock trading, getting dark money out of elections, and sending corrupt politicians to jail.
McCann: “Bill Huizenga got rich playing the game. It’s time to change the rules.”
The ad – the first ad to run in MI-04 from the DCCC and Sean McCann campaign – is airing in the Grand Rapids market beginning today and is part of the committee’s coordinated spending in key battleground districts.
This spending comes as McCann continues to build momentum in this race. Recent polling found the race neck-and-neck, with McCann leading Huizenga by a point. In recent weeks, multiple nonpartisan race raters have shifted the contest in McCann’s direction, with Crystal Ball rating it at “Toss-Up.” And McCann raised $1.8 million in Q3, shattering records and raising more in a quarter than any previous Democratic candidate in MI-04 raised in the duration of their entire campaign.
Transcript:
Sean McCann: “I’m Sean McCann and I approve this message.
You feel it every day: Washington corruption has a price tag.
Bill Huizenga took thousands from data center companies, utilities, Big Oil.
And let them drive up prices.
And voted himself a fifty thousand dollar tax break.
I say: enough.
Ban congressional stock trading.
No dark money in elections.
And if you’re corrupt, Democrat or Republican, you go to jail.
Bill Huizenga got rich playing the game.
It’s time to change the rules.”
