DCCC Releases First TV Ad in WI-01: “Bucks”

Berman: “Bryan Steil’s done pretty well for himself in Washington. His net worth more than doubled… Bryan Steil and I both chase bucks. Difference is, mine has antlers.”

The DCCC released its first TV ad in the race for WI-01, “Bucks,” highlighting how Bryan Steil has gotten rich in Congress while Mitchell Berman will take on Washington corruption – while making time to hunt with his daughters.

The ad contrasts Steil’s top performing stock portfolio and how he’s more than doubled his net worth with Mitchell’s stance that public service shouldn’t be about getting rich and commitment to banning stock trading.

The ad – the first to run in WI-01 from the DCCC and Mitchell Berman campaign – is airing in the Milwaukee and Madison markets beginning today and is part of the committee’s coordinated spending in key battleground districts.

Transcript:

Mitchell Berman: “Bryan Steil’s done pretty well for himself in Washington.

His net worth more than doubled.

His stock portfolio? One of Congress’s best.

Bryan Steil and I both chase bucks. Difference is, mine has antlers.

I’m Mitchell Berman.

I don’t own stocks. I don’t take corporate PAC money and never will.

I’ll ban members of Congress from trading stocks

Because public service shouldn’t be about getting rich.

I approve this message because Washington should work for us, not whoever cuts the check.”

This new ad is the latest sign of growing momentum behind Mitchell’s campaign.

  • On Tuesday, a DCCC analytics poll found the WI-01 race tied, with Mitchell and Steil both at 48%.
  • Last week, Cook Political Report recently shifted WI-01 in Democrats’ direction to “Lean Republican.” Cook writes in part that WI-01 “looks increasingly like a competitive race.”
  • Earlier this year, Supreme Court Justice Chris Taylor carried Wisconsin’s First District by 15 points and won four out of the five counties in the district.
