The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has released the second of its limited edition “Millionaires for Mills” trading cards to highlight the shared priorities of Multimillionaire Stewart Mills III and his ultra-wealthy backers, who want to cut taxes for the ultra-wealthy at the expense of middle class Minnesotans.
The second “millionaires for Mills” trading card features House Speaker John Boehner, who recently held a fundraiser recently to support Mills’ campaign. Boehner is working to bring Stewart Mills III to Congress because he knows that in Mills he will have a reliable vote for his budget that would raise Medicare costs on Minnesotans in order to give tax cuts to millionaires.
The second “Millionaires for Mills” trading card features John Boehner.
“John Boehner has given Millionaire Mills III thousands because he knows Mills will be a reliable rubberstamp who will support the ultra-wealthy at the expense of the middle class,” said Brandon Lorenz of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. “Stewart Mills III aligns himself with the John Boehner even though Boehner’s agenda that raises the Medicare costs of Minnesotans in order to cut taxes for millionaires is out of step with Minnesota values.”

Boehner Headlined Fundraiser for Mills. In 2014, the Star Tribune reported: “The same day GOP House Speaker John Boehner is in Minnesota throwing a fundraiser for himself at the Minneapolis Club, he will traverse up to the Eighth Congressional District for a fundraiser for GOP challenger Stewart Mills.” [Minneapolis Star Tribune, 8/8/14]

Republicans Passed an Extreme Budget for Fiscal Year 2015. In 2014, Republicans passed an extreme budget for fiscal year 2015 that would end the Medicare guarantee – by converting the program into voucher-based system – and pay for tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans on the backs of working families. The bill passed, 219-205. [H Con Res 96, Vote #177, 4/10/14]
- Citizens for Tax Justice: Republican Budget Would Give Millionaires a $200,000 Tax Cut. “As in previous years, House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan has released a budget proposal that includes some specific, enormous tax cuts with a vague promise that the amount of revenue collected by the federal government would somehow be unchanged. There is no way the plan could be implemented without providing millionaires with tax cuts averaging at least $200,000.” [Citizens for Tax Justice, 4/02/14]
- CBPP: Reducing Top Tax Bracket to 25 Percent Would Cost $1.1 Trillion Over 10 Years. “The costliest of the new tax cuts in the House budget would shrink the top individual tax rate to 25 percent, its lowest level since before the New Deal (see Figure 2). TPC estimates that eliminating the tax brackets above 25 percent would cost $1.1 trillion over ten years. (This would be in addition to the $700 billion cost of extending the Bush tax cuts for those in the top brackets.)” [CBPP, 5/26/11]
- Republican Voucher Plan Would Increase Medicare Premiums for Seniors by 50 Percent. “While Rep. Ryan uses a different formula than in past budgets to set the value of the voucher, it would still make traditional Medicare increasingly unaffordable for senior citizens. Higher out-of-pocket premiums for traditional Medicare would force seniors into private plans, where they may not have access to the doctors they want to see. The Congressional Budget Office, or CBO, previously found that under a premium support plan, premiums would increase by 50 percent for traditional Medicare.” [Center for American Progress, 4/01/14]
