DCCC Spotlights Roberson’s Extreme Anti-Choice Record

Robo Calls Launch in NV-03 on Roe v. Wade Anniversary

The DCCC will spotlight Republican Michael Roberson’s extreme anti-choice record by launching robo calls in Nevada’s 3rd Congressional District on the 43rd anniversary of the Supreme Court’s landmark Roe v. Wade ruling.

“Michael Roberson is so extreme he thinks Roe v. Wade should be overturned and that abortion should be illegal – even in the case of rape and incest,” said Barb Solish of the DCCC.  “Southern Nevadans deserve a representative who will stand up for women, not turn back time and restrict their reproductive rights.”

Nevada’s 3rd District is an open seat that runs along the southern tip of the state and includes parts of Las Vegas and Henderson. The District voted for President Obama in 2008 and 2012.

The following is a script of the robo call:

Hi, this is Camille calling on behalf of the DCCC.

Today is the 43rd  anniversary of the Supreme Court’s landmark ruling on Roe v. Wade, which said a woman’s constitutional right to privacy extends to her ability to make personal medical decisions, including having an abortion.

A majority of Americans agree a woman has the right to make her own medical decisions, yet our State Senator Michael Roberson said Roe v. Wade should be overturned and abortions should be illegal – even in the case of rape and incest.

Tell Michael Roberson Southern Nevada won’t support a representative who won’t protect a woman’s right to choose.

Background:

2010: Supported Overturning Roe V. Wade. In 2010, Michael Roberson responded to a candidate survey from the Nevada Right To Life. Question two stated, “Do you support the reversal of the Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton decisions, so that elected legislative bodies may once again protect unborn children by limiting or prohibiting abortion?” Roberson responded “Y.” [Nevada Right To Life Questionnaire, 2010]

2010: Opposed Abortion, Even In Cases Of “Forcible Rape” and “Incest Committed Against A Minor.” In 2010, Michael Roberson responded to a candidate survey from the Nevada Right To Life (NVRTL). Question one stated, “Nevada Right to Life (NVRTL) believes that unborn children should be protected by law, and that abortion should be permitted only when necessary to prevent the death of the mother. Under what circumstances, if any, do you believe that abortion should be legal? Y=Only to prevent the death of the mother (the NVRTL position). Y2=To prevent the mother’s death, in cases of incest committed against a minor, and in reported cases of forcible rape.” Roberson answered “Y.” [Nevada Right To Life Questionnaire, 2010]
