Addressing Congressman Chris Collins’ arrest for securities fraud, wire fraud, and false statements, DCCC Communications Director Meredith Kelly issued the following statement:
“Few could have imagined that when Chris Collins promised to ‘drain the swamp’ he was referring to himself. Collins shamelessly and unapologetically abused his position and the chickens have come home to roost.
“Collins’ arrest on securities fraud, wire fraud and false statements is emblematic of the corruption and twisted priorities of today’s Republican Party. While everyday families are struggling to get by, their representatives are focused solely on enriching themselves and their donors.
“For Collins’ fellow Innate investors, like Congressmen John Culberson, Doug Lamborn and Markwayne Mullin, his arrest throws their shady backroom dealings into sharp relief. Their actions clearly require close scrutiny and their voters deserve answers.
“With Collins’ arrest for corruption, unprecedented grassroots energy, and the strong candidacy of Nate McMurray, this seat is firmly in play for Democrats.”
