DCCC Chairwoman Cheri Bustos issued the following statement after Congressman George Holding (NC-02) announced his retirement from office less than a week after Holding’s district swung from a Lean R to Likely D:
“After keeping one foot out the door for weeks, it is no surprise Congressman Holding ultimately decided to call it quits rather than face near-certain defeat at the polls next November. Voters in the newly drawn 2nd Congressional District have no interest in re-electing someone with a legacy of working to take away his constituents’ health care and giving tax breaks to billionaires. Instead, North Carolinians are looking forward to the day when they will have the chance to elect someone who will finally fight on their behalf.”
Holding is the 6th member of the DCCC’s 2020 Retirement Watch List to resign or retire. But if the DCCC’s 2018 Retirement Watch List is any barometer, we can surely expect more retirements in the coming weeks. (We’re looking at you, Congressman Walker).
