DCCC Statement on House GOP Desperate Responses to Trump

In response to House Republicans’ desperate and insufficient reactions to their standard-bearer Donald Trump, the DCCC’s Meredith Kelly released the following statement:

To be sure, more House Republicans will desperately attempt to peel away from Donald Trump in the coming days, but voters will see this for what it is: a craven act of self-preservation with Election Day fast-approaching. And it will not work.

“Donald Trump has demonstrated time and again that he is unfit and too dangerous to be president, yet House Republicans have continued to support him. If Republicans claim to have found the spine to denounce him now, it’s only because these horrifying Trump comments come 30 days from the election.

“To finally denounce Donald Trump – and still not vote for Hillary Clinton – is not bravery, it is not principled, and it is not worthy of the voters they’re supposed to serve.”
