DCCC Statement on Albany Insider Peter Oberacker Entering Race for NY-19

DCCC Spokesperson Riya Vashi released the following statement after shady New York State Senator and corporate sellout Peter Oberacker announced a run in NY-19:

“Albany insider Peter Oberacker has repeatedly chosen corporate lobbyists, polluters, and utility companies over the Upstate New Yorkers he was elected to represent. From cashing checks from utility lobbyists to siding with Big Ag and polluters that hurt family farms and poisoned local water, Oberacker has made it clear who he works for — and it’s not hardworking Upstate families. While Josh Riley fights to lower costs, protect affordable health care, and help everyday people get ahead, Oberacker has sold out Upstate New York communities at every turn – and there’s no doubt he would do the exact same in Washington.”

A Quick Reminder on Oberacker’s Record of Serving Special Interests While Selling Out Upstate Families:

  • Oberacker has put Big Pharma’s profits over Upstate families – consistently voting against lowering prescription drug costs and capping insulin prices.
  • Oberacker has repeatedly done utility lobbyists’ bidding – voting against protections to stop utility companies from ripping off ratepayers with predatory fees and opposing the expansion of discount programs for New Yorkers dealing with skyrocketing utility bills.
  • Oberacker is anti-family, anti-women, and anti-choice. He rejected paid breaks for breastfeeding moms, opposed family and sick leave for working families, and repeatedly voted to restrict women’s reproductive rights.
  • Oberacker served as an executive at a Big Ag company charged with hundreds of federal environmental violations—and in Albany, he voted to allow “forever chemicals” linked to cancer in consumer products and raised costs for clean energy projects.
  • Oberacker has failed Upstate students and families – voting against a bill ensuring access to school lunch for every child and denying early education opportunities for thousands of children.
  • Oberacker has already made life more expensive for working families, rejecting a middle-class tax cut, and voting against expanding the Child Tax Credit to help Upstate families make ends meet.
