DCCC Statement on House Republicans’ Plan to Bring Extreme Budget Cuts to the Floor

Today, after months of holding the U.S. economy hostage, House Republicans are suggesting they will have the votes to pass a bill next week that will raise the debt ceiling but force extreme, out-of-touch cuts. While the public still does not know exactly what will be in the bill (and as Politico reported McCarthy is “muscl[ing] toward vote on debt plan that ‘doesn’t even exist’”), here is a just short list of things House Republicans have considered ripping away from working families:

Reminder: These proposed cuts are extremely unpopular.

DCCC spokesperson Tommy Garcia:
“House Republicans’ reckless strategy of encouraging economic default unless they can force an extreme MAGA agenda is not only out-of-touch, but it threatens the pocketbooks, futures, and wellbeing of everyday families. House Republicans are seriously mistaken if they think voters will support cuts to essential programs millions of families depend on. Any vulnerable Republican who supports this move, after holding the full faith and credit of the United States hostage, will be held accountable.”
