DCCC spokesperson Katie Smith released the following statement ahead of JD Vance’s visit to Ohio’s 13th congressional district today to tout the largest cuts to Medicaid in history:
“JD Vance’s visit to OH-13 is another desperate attempt to lie to Ohioans about the devastating impact the Big, Ugly Law will have on working families, because Washington Republicans can’t defend their record of slashing Medicaid to give handouts to billionaires – but they can’t deceive Northeast Ohioans who know that Congresswoman Emilia Sykes has always put her community first. She fought tooth and nail against this disastrous law that will kick tens of thousands of Ohioans off their health care, jeopardize Northeast Ohio jobs, and raise costs for families. Ohioans know that Congresswoman Sykes has their backs and they’ll re-elect her again next year to keep fighting for them.”
What the Big, Ugly Law means for OH-13:
- Rips away health care from more than 31,500 people across OH-13 and raises health care costs.
- Endangers Northeast Ohio’s economy and the 30,000 jobs across hospital systems – the district’s largest employer – like Aultman, Summa, and Mercy Medical, that depend on Medicaid payments to operate.
- Risks access to food for more than 45,500 OH-13 households, over 44% of which have children.
- Rolls back tax credits which will raise Ohioans’ electricity costs.
