DCCC Statement on Jen Kiggans Campaigning With House Republican Conference Chair on Her Big, Ugly Bill

“It’s stunning that Congresswoman Jen Kiggans is campaigning on her Big, Ugly Bill just days after three health care clinics in Virginia were forced to close their doors as a direct result of her vote. Kiggans lied when she promised she would protect Virginians’ health care, and we are already seeing the devastating consequences play out. Voters will hold Kiggans accountable for her record of ripping away health care from 350,000 Virginians, shuttering health clinics and putting rural hospitals like Southampton Medical Center at risk, increasing already long wait times, and jacking up costs for Virginians.”

• Augusta Medical Group announced the closure of three health care clinics in Virginia, specifically citing Kiggan’s “One Big Beautiful Bill Act and the resulting realities for healthcare delivery” in their press release.
• A rural hospital in Kiggans’ district, Southampton Medical Center, is reportedly at risk of closure because of her vote.
• Kiggans voted for and celebrated the passage of the Republican budget bill.
• In April, Kiggans was part of a group of a dozen House Republicans who warned “GOP leaders that they won’t back a reconciliation package that includes massive cuts to Medicaid.” Kiggans even wrote that “cuts to Medicaid also threaten the viability of hospitals, nursing homes, and safety-net providers nationwide.” She flip-flopped and voted for the bill anyway.
