DCCC Statement on John James Leaving MI-10 an Open Seat

DCCC Communications Director Courtney Rice released the following statement after Congressman John James announced that he was vacating Michigan’s 10th Congressional District to run for Governor:

“This swing district just became even harder for Republicans to hold. John James can see the writing on the wall: House Republicans are wildly out of step with the values of everyday Michiganders. From enacting the largest cut to Medicaid in history, to bankrolling tax breaks for billionaires, to tanking the economy and gutting good-paying Michigan jobs, their agenda is a disaster. No wonder John James is jumping ship — everyday, he’s being forced to walk the plank for Elon Musk, Donald Trump, and JD Vance. Democrats will compete aggressively for this seat, and we will win.”

During the last midterm election, the Democratic nominee came within less than 1% of winning this seat – with almost no outside spending – and Governor Whitmer won this district in 2022.
